Step 1: Open the Registry Editor
Registry Editor is a powerful tool and misusing it can render your system unstable or even inoperable. This is a pretty simple hack and as long as you stick to the instructions, you shouldn’t have any problems.
- Press Win+R to open REGEDIT. Type in “regedit” and click OK.
- On left sidebar navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\

Step 2: Disable Cortana with the Registry Editor

- Locate the Windows Search key.
- Right-click on the Windows Search folder and choose New → DWORD (32-bit) value.
- On right sidebar double-click on AllowCortana, and set the value to 0.
If it doesn’t exist, create a new key named Windows Search by right-clicking on the Windows folder and choosing New → Key.
If you want to undo or reenable Cortana in the future, you can just repeating above steps and locate the “AllowCortana” value, and delete it or set it to “1”.
